Doritos Taco Salad Recipe

This Taco Lettuce Salad recipe is a hit at the parties or just to feed the family. My mom came to stay with us for a week and brought all the ingredients to make it. I will be making it to take to our next backyard party.

We chopped the onions up fine because I am not a fan of large onion pieces and then put them in the hamburger to fry up. After it browned, we added the taco seasoning. Although the recipe calls for one package, we added an extra half package of taco seasoning for stronger flavor.

Most times that this is made, the taco meat is chilled before mixing it with the other ingredients. Others will mix it all up while the meat is warm and serve it that way.

About 10 minutes before serving the salad, chop up the lettuce with a plastic knife to prevent it from turning brown. I like to chop it up small enough so there aren’t big lettuce chunks that would have to be cut up by the person eating it.

Then wash up the tomatoes and if you choose to cut them in half, now is the time. I don’t like to cut my cherry tomatoes because it makes them release the liquid into the salad which makes it mushy.

Open the Doritos bag just slightly and take a few of the whole Doritos out and set aside. Then with the rest of the Doritos, smash them up into pieces.

Drain the sliced black olives, then mix them and the lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, chilled meat, and Catalina dressing together. Add the Doritos just before serving the salad and mix them in. Finally, put the sour cream on top and garnish with the whole Doritos that you took out and set aside. Serve it, and enjoy.

1 head of lettuce, shredded or one large bag or 2 small bags of shredded lettuce

1 lb. of browned hamburger with chopped onions

1 pkg. Taco Seasoning

2 Tbsp. Water

1 can sliced black olives, drained

8 oz. shredded cheddar cheese

Cherry tomatoes (can be halved)

12 oz. bottle Catalina salad dressing

1 pkg Doritos broken into small pieces

1 C. Sour Cream

Quick version of directions to make it.

Sprinkle the Taco Seasoning package over the browned hamburger and stir in 2 tablespoons of water. Cool, then mix in the sliced black olives, cheddar cheese, and tomatoes. Add the Catalina dressing until the salad is moistened, chill for a while or immediately add to shredded lettuce. Before serving, stir in the Doritos pieces to the salad mixture, saving some to garnish the top of the salad. Place the sour cream on top of the salad or set it aside for people to put it on their serving of the salad.
